Virga Precipitation and Dry Thunderstorm

Virga Precipitation and Dry Thunderstorm Virga is the name given to precipitation (normally downpour) that dissipates or sublimes before it hits the ground. It tends to lookâ like wispy dark streaks hanging underneath the base of a cloud. Thus, you may likewise hear virga alluded to as fallstreaks. The tempests that are related with virga produce follow measures of ground level precipitation as it were. Why the amusing name? Keeping in the convention of cloudsâ whose names are Latin, the term is gotten from the Latin word virga, which means twig or branch, likely alluding to the flimsy fragile streaks it produces. Relative Humidity is Under 50 Percent Virga is created when precipitation tumbles from high mists into incredibly dry air (low mugginess) and high air temperatures beneath. (Virga is regularly observed over the desert locale of the Western United States, a region inclined to both low stickiness and high temperatures.) As the fluid raindrops or ice precious stones hit the warm, dry air they assimilate the elevated levels of warmth vitality which invigorates the development of their water particles, changing them straight into water fume (sublimation). In the end, as increasingly more precipitation dissipates into the air, the air becomes moister (RH rises). On the off chance that precipitation is light, it can take a few hours for the air to soak. As the air immerses first on high, at that point down to the surface, a sort of damp pathway is cut out that precipitation can follow to the surface as downpour or day off. Virga On Radar Like all light precipitation, virga appears on the radar as shades of light green (downpour) or light blue (day off). Be that as it may, with virga, while the radar may recognize it, your eyes wont. On the off chance that youve ever viewed your radar screen and seen the main edge of a downpour or snow band over your area yet not seen any downpour or snow really falling outside your entryway, at that point youve been deceived by virga previously. This is normal in winter, particularly when sitting tight for the beginning of a blizzard. Weve all heard our meteorologist state Its previously snowing in the upper air, yet the air at the surface is too dry to even consider seeing it. Virga versus Downpour Shafts Its simple to confuse virga with a removed downpour shaft (a dull shade of precipitation reaching out from the base of a rainstorm to the cold earth). Whats the greatest part with for virga? On the off chance that its virga, it wont arrive at the ground. Commas in the Sky It is likewise speculated that virga is in part answerable for making opening punch mists. What's more, virga high in the air can reflect daylight making splendid sun columns and other barometrical optics related with daylight. Altered by Tiffany Means

Human impacts on the hydrology of the Mekong River

Human effects on the hydrology of the Mekong River Harm to the River Mekong Basin Mekong is a waterway that stumbles into Southeast Asia and is considered as the tenth longest stream on the planet. It is around 4,900 km and spreads a region of approximately 795,000 square km. the stream stumbles into a few nations, including China, Burma, Laos, and Vietnam.Advertising We will compose a custom article test on Human effects on the hydrology of the Mekong River explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Since the waterway courses through profoundly populated zones with serious horticultural exercises and water redirection rehearses, it has consistently experienced a move in its hydrology particularly when it moves through China. For example, China is at present leaving on an undertaking in which it will build dams out of the stream, three of which have been finished, while 12 are on various stages. In Thailand, the Pak Mun dam is as of now complete, and in Cambodia, a hold has been developed on the Tonle Sap River, which str eams into the Mekong. These dam development exercises have effectsly affected the hydrology of the waterway. The lower Mekong River has encountered a decrease in water levels throughout the years, and this decrease has been ascribed to dam development exercises upstream. For example, the filling of the Manwan store 1n 1992 caused an extreme decrease in the water level in the stream (Walling, 2006). An evaluation of the waterway at different stages demonstrated that an interference of the standard water stream, confirm by an expansion in dregs in Mekongs bed. Eve however a portion of these developments are not embraced on the principle course of the waterway, the impact is as yet huge, for example, examines show that development on the Lankang River, the Mekongs standard, has caused an extensive decrease of water downstream (Lu and Siew, 2006). Dam development has expanded the volume of silt in the Mekong River. This is on the grounds that a decrease in the progression of water adequ ately diminishes the measure of water to ship the silt downstream. In this way, the dregs settle at the base of the waterway and diminishes it depth.Advertising Looking for article on ecological investigations? How about we check whether we can support you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Indeed, examines show that zones along the center and last purposes of the Mekong River have had a diminished measure of residue motion, for the most part ascribed to the sedimentation of the Manwan dam. The residue are likewise caught in the stores and dams that are built on the stream or its tributaries. A decrease in residue stream has hugy affected the hydrology and biological system of the Mekong, particularly at the downstream segments (Kummu Varis, 2007). Silt transition prompts a low water profundity and this has made ships stall out, littler fish are currently gotten and the catch has dropped definitely while the Chiang Rai port on River Mekong is recording exceptionally low b usiness. Silt transition along the Mekong River has predominantly influenced territories promptly downstream of the dams under development or being in-filled. This very extraordinary to certain territories in which the stream has either expanded or stayed consistent most presumably because of alluvial stockpiles inside those regions. Shockingly, a decrease in residue motion additionally accompanies a few points of interest, for instance, it would improve guideline of the flood cycle, subsequently bringing down the recurrence and level of floods. Nonetheless, regions that rely upon floods to get supplements will endure therefore. The Tonle Sap River and its biological system have been for the most part influenced by dam development upstream (Kummu and Sarkulla, 2008). Dam developments have caused a move toward stream of the Mekong River and this has prompted a grave impact on the environment. Modifications in stream and a decrease of the volume of stream have influenced Tonle Saps fl oodplain, and its woods, by changing the flood-beat system of Lake Tonle Sap. This has caused a steady loss of the timberland and other ensured territories and this thusly influences the jobs of people who live downstream and who rely upon Tonle Saps regular assets. Alleviation techniques to deliver harm to normal frameworks The principal moderation measure to forestall harm to the downstream Mekong River is to direct the development of dams and supplies. To accomplish this exertion, the nations through which the waterway passes have framed a commission known as Mekong River Commission.Advertising We will compose a custom paper test on Human effects on the hydrology of the Mekong River explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The commission has normally censured China for its negligence to the push to stop development of dams. Guideline of dam development would guarantee that water in the dam stays at levels that don't prompt residue motion, nor does it lead to floodin g. Lu and Siew (2005) contend that streams have a characteristic capacity to keep up a balance regardless of changes in their hydrologic systems, while this attestation might be valid, it may not work in instances of extraordinary harm to waterway systems. Subsequently, an alleviation procedure must be set up. Such a procedure would include digging, where silt are genuinely expelled from the waterway bed so the water can stream uninhibitedly. While this is just a transient arrangement, it will be valuable while changeless techniques, which may take quite a while because of the contribution of numerous nations, are being looked for. A Problem Of War On Drugs - Free Essay Example

War on Drugs War on drugs is not a war thats been fought on the other side of the nation. This is a war thats been in the backyards of ALL Americans, every day. This is a tough war that has been impacting America in many ways. This cant be controlled by the heavy aid of nuclear weapons or even heavy artillery. They way legalization of a drug occurs is determining the number of MIAs. Many will be murder, just like the same outcome of these soldiers getting killed out in the battlefield if drugs became legal. This war has been going on for decades, even before 1971, when President Nixon declared the War on Drugs. The goal of the campaign was to seize and control the prohibition of the illegal drug trade. How so? Tactics were used but done little to solve the problem in the United States. According to the website, Since Richard Nixon declared a war on drugs back in the 1970s the United States Government has spent nearly $1 trillion towards eradicating the drug problem in this country, (Admin 2016). From that one trillion, a billion tax dollars were spent on military training but still little was done. A year later the addiction rate was consistent throughout the years with also tremendous spending. The war on drugs became a problem. It produced a lot of inequality on the street between racial groups. Communities of color, mostly African American and Latino, were manifested through racial profiling and discrimination between Law Enforcement officials. In 1990, incarceration rates were blooming, among other countries, like China, Russia, etc. In the middle to the late 1900s, judges were forced to give out mandatory life sentences, from the Rockefeller Drug Laws, for simple drug possessions and even low-level drug sales. Then the FBI made distinctions between powder cocaine and crack cocaine, even though they were both the same drug, just used differently. According to drugpolicy.com, Nearly 80% of people in federal prisons and almost 60% of people in state prisons for drug offenses were nearly black or Latino, (Race and the Drug War). Even though white people were also drug users and sellers, somehow colored people were sent to prison. The war on drugs is a broad case that affects the Criminal Justice System as a whole, from policing, through the courts, and lastly corrections. People of color experience discrimination on the streets. They were more likely to be pulled over, searched and arrested, harsh sentencing, and many more. The problem on policing was that colored civilians had a higher chance of being racial profiled and also killed by Law Enforcement than any other race. This impacted the courts because according to drugpolicy.com, Research shows that prosecutors are twice as likely to pursue a mandatory minimum sentence for black people as for white people charged with the same offense. Among people who received a mandatory minimum sentence in 2011, 38% were Latino and 31% were black, (Race and the Drug War). With the policing hitting the streets extremely and the court giving out harsh and long sentencing, this led to overcrowded prisons. The war on drugs had a huge increase in the prison systems due to the failed drug war policies locking up black and Latinos. According to politifact.com, The state and federal prison population grew from 218,466 in 1974 to 1,508,636 in 2014, which is a nearly 600 percent increase. For comparison, the overall United States population has increased just 51 percent since 1974, this is only through the years of 1974-2014 (War on Drugs and Incarceration Rates). Drugs emerged the street of the United States in the early 1800s. Opium, Cocaine, Marijuana, Morphine, and the worst drug of all, Heroin were all legal and used for specific medically and recreational purposes. Opium and Cocaine were the most popular drug after the American Civil War. Coca-Cola companies around the world used cocaine as an ingredient to manufacture health drinks and remedies. One year later, morphine was created for medical purposes. Hard drugs like Heroin were used to treat people who had respiratory illnesses. Things started to change when psychotropic drugs, like opium and cocaine, were being abused causing addiction as well as an epidemic. Local governments were banding anything that had to do with opium, from dens to importations. In 1960, the FDA created the Pure Food and Drug Act, which were mandatory for all physicians to correctly label all medicines. This act made it seem like drugs werent a harmless treatment for aches and pains. According to history.com, In 1914, Congress passed the Harrison Act, which regulated and taxed the production, importation, and distribution of opiates and cocaine, (History.com Staff 2017). This act was an enforcement of physicians because they were the ones prescribing the drugs to the addicts that were on maintenance programs. Under the authority of Harry J. Anslinger, who is in charge of the FBI department of narcotics, drugs were increasing criminalized. History.com Staff, in 2017, wrote down, In 1937, the Marijuana Tax Act was passed. This federal law placed a tax on the sale of cannabis, hemp, or marijuana (2017). This act was drafted by Anslinger, even though it didnt criminalize the usage and possession of marijuana, it did include massive penalties and fines which were two grand and five years in the penitentiary. Marijuana was to blame for many violent crimes causing the government to send out warnings about these drugs, but many continued to ignore the fact about it. Marijuana hit the streets of college campuses. Others were trying other drugs like LSD, which is a hallucinating drug. It wasnt surprising for veterans to come home and smoke marijuana and shoot up heroin. Under the Johnson administration, they passed and sign the Addict Rehabilitation Act of 1966. Which was the act that confirmed narcotics addiction was a mental disease or illness, and alcoholism was also appealed for drug addiction. In 1971, the war on drugs was finally declared by President Richard Nixon. According to Vulliamy (2011), Drug Abuse, said President, was Public enemy number one (Vulliamy 2011). Nixon wanted to fight the war on drugs on both perspectives of the economy, the supply and demand of it. Nixon created the Drug Enforcement Agency to launch an interdiction against Mexico. According to history.com staffs, The DEA was given 1,470 special agents and a budget of less than $75 million. Today, the agency has nearly 5,000 agents and a budget of $2.03 billion (history.com 2017). Nixon wanted Mexico to be pressured into regulating it marijuana growers. It came to the point where the government put money into improving and closing up the doors to the border. With the success of cutting down the supply of Mexican marijuana from Mexico, the Columbians took Mexicos place as Americas marijuana supplier. Drugs were being smuggled through the air, sea, and land, leading the closing of the borders. In the mid-1970s, the War on Drugs took a slight hiatus. Between 1973 and 1977, eleven states decriminalized marijuana possession (history.com staff, 2017). Cocaine was and still is rapidly increasing when President Carter was in office. The increase of cocaine consumption, made it seem like there were ties between marijuana being the feeder drug for cocaine. Ronald Reagan took office to reinforce and expand former President Nixon War on Drug Policies. At the beginning of his presidential term, the incarceration rates were insanely high due to the drug war. According to drugpolicy.org, The number of people behind bars for nonviolent drug law offenses increased from 50,000 in 1980 to over 400,000 by 1997 (Race and Drug War). President Reagan declared the war on drugs in 1982. He believed that illicit drugs were a threat to the U.S National Security and the series of legislations. His focus was giving out tough sentences for mostly crack cocaine convictions and not powder cocaine, resulting the African American and Latino population to be incarcerated. The media was portraying the fact of racism being played out the ignorance of powder cocaine were used among whites and the crack problems were coming from inner black communities. While Pres. Reagan was in office, his wife, Nancy Reagan, began the Just Say No campaign. This campaign was to educate the children the issues in drug usage. This was to start up the zero tolerance policies, which led to the DARE drug education program. According to drugpolicies.org, which was quickly adopted nationwide despite the lack of evidence of its effectiveness (Race and Drug War). Many Americans and policymakers felt that the campaign was showing that people of color were being targeted and also being ineffective. Since incarcerating rates were skyrocketing mostly over cocaine, the Congress passed and signed the Fair Sentencing Act in 2010, which reduced the sentencing between crack cocaine and powder cocaine offenses. The legalization in many states as well as the District of Colombia has led to the conversations on the view of recreational drug use. The War on Drugs is still being fought to this day, but with less intensity and publicity than what it was back in the 1900s. Many say the war on drugs was a failure because it ruined many lives, and overcrowded prisons which cost a fortune. The question is, is the war on drugs succeeding? The main goal of the war on drugs is to reduce drug use. Theres always going to be drugs, you cant fully stop the flow on drugs on the streets. According to Lopez (2014), The prices of most drugs, as tracked by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, have plummeted. Between 1981 and 2007, the median bulk price of heroin is down by roughly 93 percent, and the median bulk price of powder cocaine is down by about 87 percent. Between 1986 and 2007, the median bulk price of crack cocaine fell by around 54 percent. The prices of meth and marijuana, meanwhile, have remained largely stable since the 1980s (Lopez 2014). There are majors steps we need to consider. We need to show the administration that the current system is failing. What we should do is get the opinion of the schools and streets to see what we should do. We should think as a kid, we need to know what drives them to buy drugs, whats the biggest influence on the kid, etc. The next step is looking at other countries to see how they do it. We cant be changing our drug policies and think its a failure. The last major thing is the drug use needs to be reduced, if we can get rehab center to become more affordable, that would be a great change. We need to focus on bringing down the murderers and making sure the incarceration rates are decreasing. We need to educate the kids and spend more money onto programs so kids get the idea that drugs are a huge problem in society. Preaching it is the key. Money is a situation in the US. We need to focus on spending money on making it harder to get a hold of drug ingredients. Looks like the US forgot the purpose of the drug war, instead spending millions of dollars putting people in jail. Money should be spent on rehabilitation and addiction treatments. Its time to rethink our policies and laws because the war on drugs is an epic failure. The Us attempted to end the war on drugs by sending many civilians in jail for low-level offenses. Thats why the US became the world largest incarcerator, putting 2.3 million people in jail. Out of all the attempts the US has tried, fighting drug addiction and providing treat is far more effective than incarceration. References Admin. (2016, November 29). Groundwater Pollution and Drinking Water Scarcity Essay...

We have the ability to provide clean water for every man, woman and child on the Earth. What has been lacking is the collective will to accomplish this. This is the commitment we need to make to the world. Jean-Michel Cousteau The Issue: Recently, the issue of drinking water quality has become a matter of great importance. Hydrogeologists and water resource managers have realized that the increased demand for drinking water, due to population growth, has placed a huge burden on our nations groundwater resources. Groundwater resources make up a minute 0.31% of the worlds water supply. Groundwater quality can be defined in terms of the concentration of its chemical constituents relative to a variety of potential uses.†¦show more content†¦Both of these phenomena occur naturally. The chemical alterations that occur in the soil and atmosphere during the hydrologic cycle are pivotal in maintaining the natural equilibrium. However, due mostly to human intervention, the water is becoming poisoned as it seeps into the Earth. The Science Behind the Issue: The four main types of groundwater pollution are industrial, domestic, agricultural and salt-water intrusion. Industrial pollution reaches aquifers through used waters as I have already briefly explained. Used waters can contain chemical compounds and trace elements like metals at high temperatures. Radioactive pollution from nuclear power plants is also carried by used water, as is rain that infiltrates through waste disposal sites. Pipeline breakage as well as other unforseeable accidents also add to industrial pollution. Irrigation and water carry away fertilizers, minerals, salts, herbicides and pesticides. This activity is known as agricultural pollution, and it causes nitrate levels to rise excessively. Environmental pollution is due in large part to seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers (Fried 1975). Man-made pollution reaches the aquifer by rain and the rain subsequently infiltrates sanitary landfills. Road-runoff and domestic wastewater are non-point sources that also add to groundwater pollution. Question: Write about theSun Path Chart for Orbital Mechanics. Answer: The maximum angle of the sun above the horizon in my hometown (Ottawa) is 68 degrees. The minimum angle of the sun above the horizon at noon in my hometown is 21 degrees. The number of hours of daylight is 12hours and 9 hours on March 20th and December 21st respectively. The sun is at the maximum height angle (68 degrees) on one day only. That is, on 21st June. According to orbital mechanics, the earth rotates on its orbit while revolving around the sun. The earths ecliptic plane is tilted by 23.5 degrees relative to the earths celestial equator during the summer solstice and 23.5 degrees during the winter solstice. Evidently, the difference between the maximum and minimum angles of the sun above the horizon is 68-21=47 degrees. Meaning the difference is twice the earths tilt (Physical Geography, 2014). However, along with the equator, the difference between the maximum and the minimum angles is equal to the earths tilt. That is 23.5 degrees. Moreover, the equator receives daylight of 12hours from December through June. References Physical Geography. (2014). 6(h). Earth-Sun Geometry. Seventh Grade Reflective Essay About Argumentative Samples

Seventh Grade Reflective Essay About Argumentative SamplesHere is a reflection on the research and practice of the seventh grade reflective essay about argumentative samples. It is the expert teachers' application of their past to present thinking to their students. This task may be an awkward one to come up with proper strategies for critical thinking when you are only too familiar with some of the most emotionally charged topics in the academic world. Here are some tips on how to go about this task:Start by defining the audience and writing the subject and conclusion well. For example, some parents want to know what the benefits of education are and it is the teacher's job to read these kinds of essays, interpret them and formulate a response. The homework will consist of drawing your own conclusions.Allow yourself to be vulnerable, learn to be uncomfortable and demand a response to all of your questions. It is the professor's role to offer you the opportunity to challenge yourself . Be open to learning from other experts, recognizing the value of feedback.Critical thinking is easy when you open up your mind and think of your options. You can ask the teacher for answers to some of your questions. He may encourage you to engage in a discussion with the principal. The most important thing is to recognize that reading and learning materials are not products that you can put on the shelf and store for future use. These tools are like going on safari. The longer you leave them alone the more they break down. Reflections help you keep these tools in good condition and ready to be used when the time is right. The seventh grade reflective essay about argumentative samples can be as controversial as the literature that you find in sixth grade. Professors have their own view of the world, how their world is organized and how the world should be organized. They have heard all the arguments, read all the literature, used all the examples and all they want to do is to put fo rward their own perspective. They are forced to evaluate their own arguments and opinions in the light of their own training and experience.Students will quickly see how easy it is to be swayed and it is the job of the teacher to keep the students' attention by asking probing questions. The students will not feel at home unless they have a framework of accepted principles to apply and a method to draw upon. It is the job of the professor to be more willing to discuss alternative points of view than to bury the learning beneath pages of research and paper.
